Residential proxies with cURL
cURL is the quickest way to check that your credentials work before you write any code. Pass the proxy with -x and call an IP echo service to see which residential IP you got.
Your username and password are on the Proxy generator page after you sign in. Host gw.nodelighthouse.com: port 9000 rotating, 10000 sticky, 11000 SOCKS5.
Make your first request
Your username and password are on the Proxy generator page of the dashboard. Use the password exactly as shown there; country, state, city and session options all go in the username.
Then run this. It prints the IP the target site sees.
curl -x http://<USERNAME>-type-residential:<PASSWORD>@gw.nodelighthouse.com:9000 https://api.ipify.orgWatch the IP rotate, or pin it
Port 9000 gives a new IP per request. Port 10000 with -lifetime-N-session-xxxxxxxx in the username keeps the same IP for N minutes (1 to 1440).
# rotating: three different IPs
for i in 1 2 3; do curl -s -x http://<USERNAME>-type-residential-country-us:<PASSWORD>@gw.nodelighthouse.com:9000 https://api.ipify.org; echo; done
# sticky: the same IP three times
for i in 1 2 3; do curl -s -x http://<USERNAME>-type-residential-country-us-lifetime-10-session-abc12345:<PASSWORD>@gw.nodelighthouse.com:10000 https://api.ipify.org; echo; doneTarget a country, state or city
Add targeting to the username. Values are lowercase with no spaces or dashes, for example losangeles, not los-angeles.
curl -x http://<USERNAME>-type-residential-country-us-state-california-city-losangeles:<PASSWORD>@gw.nodelighthouse.com:9000 https://api.ipify.orgUse SOCKS5, or keep the password out of the URL
For SOCKS5 use port 11000 with the socks5h scheme so DNS resolves through the proxy. If your password contains characters like @ or :, pass credentials separately with -U (--proxy-user) instead of in the URL.
# SOCKS5 with remote DNS
curl -x socks5h://<USERNAME>-type-residential-country-us:<PASSWORD>@gw.nodelighthouse.com:11000 https://api.ipify.org
# credentials outside the URL
curl -x http://gw.nodelighthouse.com:9000 -U '<USERNAME>-type-residential-country-us:<PASSWORD>' https://api.ipify.orgQuestions
- I get 407 Proxy Authentication Required. What's wrong?
- The username or password didn't match. Copy the password exactly as shown on the Proxy generator, check that the username starts with your account username followed by -type-residential, and quote the whole string in your shell.
- Why socks5h and not socks5?
- With socks5, cURL resolves the hostname on your machine and sends only the IP to the proxy. socks5h sends the hostname, so DNS is resolved from the proxy's location too.
- How do I test cheaply?
- The $2 test pack on the pricing page includes 500 MB, which is a very large number of IP-check requests. After that, traffic is a flat $1.65/GB, paid in crypto.
Try it on your own targets
A flat $1.65/GB on every plan, with state and city targeting included. Start with the $2 for 500 MB test pack, paid in crypto.
